Data Update Frequency and Delivery Quality.
Weather data is retrieved and updated constantly from WxWorx sources located at thousands of points across the nation to ensure you have information at your fingertips whenever and wherever you need it. Data update rates vary by the specific data product; for instance, NEXRAD radar is updated every 5 minutes. Refreshed data is uplinked to XM's two geostationary satellites and re-broadcast back to earth to the contiguous 48 United States and coastal waters.

XM's satellite delivery solution is driven by the most powerful commercial satellites ever placed into orbit, both always in view and both simultaneously transmitting all data. By operating in the S-band frequency, the XM signal is less impacted by signal loss due to atmospheric conditions (e.g., rain fade, etc.) than satellites operating in higher-band frequencies. Together, these factors - signal diversity, high transmit power, immunity to signal loss - enable XM to deliver more extensive and reliable coverage than do non-S-band, other satellite or ground-based solutions.
