Offshore Navigator

Product Overview

Offshore Navigator is a full-featured PC planning and GPS chartplotting application. It works hand-in-hand with Digital Charts and Contour 3-D Charts (sold separately). If you already have Digital Charts, Offshore Navigator is available by itself. If you're just getting started, we recommend purchasing Marine Navigator, which combines all three components in one package.

Route Planning

Offshore Navigator makes route planning as simple as clicking a mouse. Click - and you've put the first waypoint on the chart. Click again - and you're creating a route. It's that easy.

On-Water Mode and Data Windows

One click simplifies the interface so you can see more chart area and the functions and data windows you need while navigation.

On-Water Mode View

Spherical-Horizon View

The new Spherical-Horizon View bends your mind as it extends your vision. Imagine draping a paper chart over a beachball, and you have the idea. Now you can see what to expect far, far ahead while the immediate area stays in sharp focus.

Autopilot Interface

Offshore Navigator will generate NMEA 0183 sentences to steer your autopilot. After planning your trip at home, walk aboard, plug in your laptop, and let your autopilot follow your earlier instructions as you get underway. It doesn't get any easier.

Note: An autopilot is not required to run Offshore Navigator

Internet Vessel Tracking

Use the optional "Send Position Report" to email your vessel's Position, Heading, Speed and Trip ETA to anybody with email and a web browser. The recipient can see your position right on a chart with no additional software needed.

What's New

Offshore Navigator 5.02 released 1/17/03 Download it here

Key differences from 5.01:

Ship's Log
An electronic logbook lets you keep a record of trips, conditions, and vessel operations. Optional timed entries can be made hourly or half-hourly, and entries are automatically logged to record specific events, like GPS signal loss and triggered alarms.

Key differences from 5.0:

Automatic Zoom/Scale Buttons
The pair of Plus and Minus buttons at the lower right corner of the Offshore Navigator screen provide automatic zoom level/chart scale adjustment. When you press the plus (+) button, Offshore Navigator will either adjust your zoom level or automatically switch to a different chart, whichever better provides a 50% closer view. Pressing the minus (-) button does the same thing in reverse, for a view that's 50% "farther away."

Key differences from pre-5.0 versions of Offshore Navigator:

On-Water Mode
Designed to make navigation even simpler. In On-Water Mode, the toolbar and controls that you need for trip planning are replaced by a simple set of buttons, with the features you're most likely to need during navigation. With this simple interface, you can quickly find the tools you need, while keeping your attention on your surroundings. Press the On-Water button in the lower left corner of your screen to enter On-Water Mode. In On-Water Mode, press the Plan button to return to Plan Mode (Offshore Navigator's standard operating mode.)

Spherical Horizon View
An option in On-Water Mode. In Spherical Horizon View, charts are presented in a curved format, much like a globe. This lets you see your immediate surroundings in high details, while benefiting from a "look-ahead" viewpoint of the chart area in your path.

Streamlined Navigation Panel
Most of the basics are still here, plus a simple Plus/Minus zoom button control. Data formerly contained in the Status Bar (triggered alarms, datum status, Navigation Mode/Vessel positioning method) has now been consolidated with the Navigation Panel, thereby making a little more room for chart image display.

Position Marks
A classification of Marks. Press the Position Mark button (or choose Create Position Mark from the Tools menu) to place a Position Mark at your vessel location. Position marks stay behind on the chart after your vessel icon moves away. They are handy for recording things you notice while you cruise, and for when you want to make a quick note of where you were at a given time.
